Samuel Hubbard Freedom Now, Black Suede

Freedom takes on a new meaning with our modern take on the oxford. With hidden-lace detailing and two sets of laces in every box to choose from, the Freedom Now from Samuel Hubbard is anything but boring. Practicing a unique two-step Italian construction known as "sacchetto," our skilled shoemakers create a silky smooth lining that caresses your foot. It's unlike any traditional shoe you've ever felt. With exquisite leathers from Europe and Hubbard styling details, you'll want to get the Freedom Now. Now.

Our Freedom collection gives you the freedom of movement, the freedom of comfort, the freedom of style. With the First Amendment on every sole, it also reminds us of our most important freedoms. We've partnered with News Literacy Project to bring instructional materials to middle and high school classrooms that help teach kids how to be critical consumers of news. For every pair purchased from samuelhubbard.com, $20 will be donated to NLP to fund materials for a classroom.

  • From the vamp to the outsole and everything in between, every component of our women's shoes has been designed specifically for the female foot.

  • Featuring chrome-free European leathers inside and out.

  • Anatomically-contoured last and outsole cradle the foot from toe to heel. Buttery-soft glove leather upper and sock linings for comfort and breathability.

Bruce Katz, founder and CEO, is a third generation shoemaker who is following in the tradition of his grandfather who started the original Hubbard Shoe Company in 1930 in Rochester, New Hampshire. Hubbard built a reputation for fine footwear where fit, comfort, and durability were paramount. When domestic manufacturing became unviable in the early 70’s, the family re-invented their business with the creation of Rockport Shoes, which were made in factories all over the world. Samuel Hubbard Shoe is a new family enterprise created in 2012 with the mission of creating the most comfortable walking shoes for work and for weekends.

At Samuel Hubbard, we design shoes where comfort and craftsmanship are never compromised. Being just “good enough” is not good enough for us. If there is a better method, if there are better materials, then that is what we choose. We strive to honor the past and what we have learned as shoemakers since 1930. Bruce Katz’s father Saul often said, “We make friends with our shoes, one pair at a time.”

Our company is based in Mill Valley, California on the side of Mount Tamalpais. The first collection is produced by a factory on another hillside, in the north of Portugal.
