Cat Bates Hinge Bracelet 2.1

The Cat Bates Hinge Bracelet 2.1 features a bangle bracelet which is bolted onto the wrist using the accompanying driver necklace. It is intended to be worn for extended periods; months if not years. Great as a gift to yourself or a loved one, this piece is guaranteed to start conversations and garnish compliments.

  • I drafted the original on paper then in CAD. The metal layers are waterjet cut to spec, the sex bolts are machined to spec, all here in Maine.
  • All assembly and finishing is done in house as is the CNC cutting of the boxes.
  • This is not an easy piece to put on or take off but is quite comfortable to wear. It is possible to put the bracelet on one’s self, but much easier with a friend’s assistance.
  • To take off: Use the driver to loosen the bolt. Use the end of the bolt to push out the nut, noting the slot in the head of the nut and the corresponding hole on the bracelet’s surface. Hinge the bracelet open, then closed again, making sure that the layers interlock so that the outside surfaces are flush.
  • Practice re-inserting the nut a few times, and then put it on. Before tightening be sure that the slot in the head of the nut is fit around the corresponding pin.
  • Hand tighten, and then use the driver necklace to finish. In an emergency a coin can be used to loosen the bolt, though it may damage the head.
  • The cord on the Driver Necklace is marine grade machine braided nylon which I wax in house and finished with signature sister clasps. It will fade to a pale grey with wear, based on your lifestyle.
  • Made in Maine

HI, I'M CAT

I live in Portland, ME.  I make my living designing and producing jewelry.

My workshop is located on the 4th floor of a sexy old mill building in Westbrook, about 20 minutes from downtown Portland.  I make this work from scratch, designing virtually every element of every piece.  There are a small number of exceptions (earrings posts, split rings, etc.), and I note these in product descriptions.  I use a variety of metalworking and fiber working techniques to create the pieces; you can learn more in the Details section.

Pieces will have subtle differences from one to the next, as everything is finished by hand.  The metal patina or cord color may be darker or lighter than the sample pictured, and the metal will have its own unique scratches and pits from finishing.   All will grow more beautiful over time as the various materials patina.  As a designer I aim for subtlety, durability, and comfort.  Most of my pieces are impervious to water & suitable for constant wear.

As the wearer, please take pride knowing that you are part of what makes the piece beautiful.
